    Yeah, it's very old. From the 1100s I think. The charter for Ormskirk market was granted by te crown to the monks of Burscough Priory. I believe they were Black Canons - i.e. they followed the rule of saint Augustine of Hippo.

    Unfortunately the priory was at the sharp end of auld 'enry and his dissolution. The bells from it are in Orksmirk parish church now.



    Interestingly - wiki says that Lathom means 'Brick House' (Lothe Hom) so called after the first brick built hall there after the conquest in 1066.
