Unseen Liverpool

I'm back from sunny Spain, so more pics again!
A bit of background, first. I was born and grew up in Walton. My father encouraged me to take up photography, by presenting me with a Brownie 127 in the early 1960's. Apart from the usual snaps, I became horrified at the wholesale demolition of whole districts, not to mention a way of life, and tried to record what I could. When I could afford colour, this continued as my own private project that has remained unseen, until now. They could so easily have ended up in landfill, but I want to share them with everyone. They are all mine, unless stated and I am pleased at the feedback. Enjoy!

The Bedford is very timely as demolition started today.
Somebody emailed me to say that they'd started to take the tiles off, so I suppose I could record the demolition.
Something I certainly would rather not have seen.

I'm not sure I'd want to see the 'death' of a building like that. Now Concourse Hse would be different.

I like Concourse House. A nicely styled well proportioned modern building. It was just neglected, that's all.

As the poor Bedford, part of my childhood, goes to the cinema index in the sky, I feel it in keeping to provide a requiem for another great building. "you take them for granted, until one day they're gone!"

Its a fine June Sunday morning in 1971. In the middle of Liverpool it's the end of an era for a once proud Central Station. The previous night, British Rail closed it, except for a temporary booking hut on Platform 4 for the Gateacre line, until that could be closed too.
The empty forecourt, wood panelled booking hall still advertising places to travel to, - but not from here! A once bustling concourse now only echoes to the detritus from the previous day blowing about. The only waiting here now is for the wreckers ball, which came on the 19 th July.

Further to my last posting, the death throes of the Majestic Cinema, Daulby Street, August 1970
Rare, in that the demolition contractors let me in, to roam freely(pre HSE days).
No doubt they thought that I was the district nutter!!!!!
Outside view, projection room, balcony demolition and stage with contractor on it. The black line across the screen is a fallen top masking curtain.
Under the balcony was a room packed with the archive of the cinema; old framed photos, plans, documents, etc. I did rescue an old seating plan and the fire record, ie; played in the event of fire to alert the staff - not the patrons. It was "Three blind Mice"!!!!! complete with Majestic sticker. Wish I could have saved more.
At least a little bit was saved and as every picture has a story, these were my attempts at "arty pics. and the background to it.

Walton engine shed(CLC). Note the water tower and half timbered house on Queens Drive. Found this decades ago at a fair. Don't know who to credit it to.
Kirkdale Tunnels, From Antonio Street Bridge, Bootle late 1950's. My Dad used to bring me here as a child. Found this among his possessions, after his death.
Kirkdale Station and porter! 1965. Typifies the gloomy holes that a lot of suburban stations were then! Electric trains and gas lighting!

In 1960, off City Road, Walton, a bonfire was being built. scattered around it were hundreds of glass lantern slides. even as a child of 9, I thought they should be saved and grabbed as many as I could. Until now they have gathered dust, but as they can now be scanned, have a look!
The church decorated is Linacre Methodist on Stanley Road, Litherland.
But where was Crosby Lighthouse??????
