A new book marks 30 years of the Eldonian Village and how a community refused to be scattered around:

The foundations for the new high rise on Gt Crosshall Street though nothing ever seems to be happening much there. Don't step out the back door of St. Patrick's court just yet!

It's a pity someone has felt the need to have to do this. Had many a good night in there.

    It's just despicable

I hope they get those B's --- like someone says in the comments, word will get around - lets hope some locals get to them before the authorities. I hope they get dealt with.

I've been to a few weddings there. Was shocked by the video on the Echo website. What goes through the minds of someone to set fire to a community building? Mind-less idiots!

I'd guess that Tony McGann has some idea, who these goons are! It's not just casual vandalism!

The Scottie Press, launched in 1971 is Britain's longest running and award winning community newspaper. As well as selling well locally, it reaches some of the Vauxhall, Everton and Kirkdale ex pats as far and wide as Norris Green and Kirkby. It is an invaluable resource in that it publishes which benefits are available to the elderly, disabled and unemployed amongst others and advises of up and coming evens at such local venues as Lee Jones, The Silvestrian and The Eldonian club. It also publishes local sporting event results that are played throughout what local pubs and parochial clubs that are still in existance. Readers views and memories are always welcomed and to this end, the organisers, team, committee and editors of the newspaper have sought additional contributions to the Scottie Press which will assist hopefully in taking it into a new era, it having just celebrated its 40th anniversary. I am proud to be one of those who will be contributing regularly with a 'Looking Back' column as I hope the large library of LRO photographs and memories I have of the area will instigate some further interest to the readers. I hope that those living in the area now and long since, that don't already have the Scottie Press as a must have monthly buy, will do so in the future.

Printed and distributed since 1971, it is the longest running, now possibly the only, local community newspaper in Liverpool.

It has reported on Weddings, Christenings, Communions, funerals and other religious events including walks/parades that have happened throughout the district of Vauxhall in that time.

Ron Formby was a well known local figure, photographer and campaigner for anything good that could be done in the extensive area and he even organised coach tours of its local landmarks, starting with the city's dignitaries who thought it was a great idea.

Alas, Ron suffered ill health a couple of years ago but the good staff there are trying to ensure that the newspaper remains a vital resource for people who need to know of their rights, social benefits and group events they can partake in.

I am honoured to be supplying them with a monthly 'Looking back' themed article and these are what i've had published up to now. Ken Rogers, author of the lost tribes of Everton is also on board.

See the previous page to this thread for the Christmas edition article.

I've already written the article for March which features the run up to the 20th Anniversary of a Company operating from one of Scotland Road's largest and oldest buildings.
