    Exclamation Building Liverpool's Roads

    Please find attached a selection of pictures showing the laying of Liverpool's roads and streets.

    Tar spraying on Ullet Road - 1905. The tar being used was 'Clare's Compo'. R.S. Clare & Co.

    Pic number 3

    Tarring ('crystaling creosote') Botanic Road - 1904. The photo shows tar being sprayed using 'watering' cans.

    Laying tarmac on Ullet road - 1907. The photo shows the tarmac being laid by hand and a road roller compressing it.

    Great views Kev!

    Most of our suburban routes are the product the great John Brodie's forward thinking. He was behind the construction of Queens Drive; a rather visionary concept for his day. Afterall, people were more concerned about getting into the city...not around it!
