This is some air raid shelters being built in the back field being built between
Reading Street and Lambeth Road in 1942. We also had them built in the street itself. Each family was issued with keys to them. I don`t know if they
would have saved people as they were only 2 bricks wide with a 4 inch concrete roof. Before they were knocked down we used them as playgrounds. We would jump off them with unfurled umbrellas or a sack tied
around our shoulders after watching Flash Gordon on the pictures
