    Default Light Aircraft over Liverpool

A good few years ago, I remember looking out of the back window and seeing 5 light aircraft fly past - no one would believe me at all especially when I said they were all in a line and it looked rather amazing!

Yesterday I was polishing the car and saw the same lot, this time only 4, but they buzzed around Childwall for a good 15 mins before disappearing off.

    Only got a quick shot:

The second from the front is the largest and looks WW2 in profile.

Saw no banners. One was a biplane the rest were single wing, none looked or sounded like ww2 planes.

I'm not too hot on AC recognition, but the first looks like a Grob Tutor, the second a DeHavilland Chipmunk and the third either a DH Tigermoth or a rebuilt SE5A, all AC used by the RAF.

My wife and I saw them over Speke as we were driving at about 2pm yesterday. I pointed them out as I was just talking about Captain Black's ghost.

I saw two bi planes and two small modern planes flying around in circles on Boxing day. One bi plane was yellow with a blue tail. I thought that the second modern plane looked WWII as well with a small canopy and small flat glass panels. I got the impressing that they may have been filming by the formation they were flying.

Cheers mate, that does look like a Boeing Stearman.

They make a lovely noise, those big old radial prop jobs.

It's probably one of the many flying clubs that use RAF Woodvale as a base. I know that the University of Liverpool use Grob Tutors and I think Manchester University use them as well.
