Do me a favour and ask if he intends to ever offer any apologies for his "Little Caesar of Lime Street" comment about George Kelly in "Liverpool Roundabout".

He referred to him in his book as "The Little caesar of Lime Street" and other callous remarks about him being a killer. He was an innocent man and not a gangster at all.

What were his reasons for this? Were there any grounds for him to suspect this?

Michael Macilwee makes a few remarks about George Kelly being a gangster in his book 'Tearaways'. There's no excuse since George Skelly's book was available for him to read.

Jumping on the bandwagon of there being no smoke without fire when in fact there was, and the smoke was fanned by Herbert Balmer.

I think today it's obvious that Balmer "fitted up" the two men, George Kelly and Charles Connolly, as the men responsible for the Cameo murders. That the Crown failed to prove its case, that the convictions were "unsafe" to put it technically, has now been upheld by the high court. But the point is that I don't think that was obvious when Richard Whittington-Egan published his Liverpool Roundabout way back in 1957. I don't believe people were jumping on his case back then for being wrong.

Whittington - Egan claimed he knew GK before the Cameo and used a bit of poetic licence in Liverpool Roundabout and how much of an underworld figure GK was....when he wasn't. Whittington - Egan went beyond sticking to the so called facts.

Then it was up to Whittington Egan back then to do the research that Skelly obviously did in finding them innocent. It's easier to go with the flow of the jury findings on dodgy evidence. I believe W.E. has also changed his stance on the Wallace case since his 'Corpse in the parlour' work was published so in effect that renders anyone reading them now as unaware that he now thinks differently.
