Default New Glass and Steel Bridge to John Lewis

A steel and glass bridge linking a new shopping development in Liverpool
city centre to a multi-storey car park is being lifted into place.

The 150-tonne bridge will link the new John Lewis store in the Liverpool One
complex to the nearby Q-Park car park.

The development, which is set to open in spring 2008, features shops, bars
and hotels and centres on a 43-acre site near the city's Paradise Street.

The 65m (213ft) bridge is being hoisted into place over Saturday and
    Sunday.

Once the steel structure is in place, the final touches of glass and stainless
steel will be installed in February.

Saw this early afternoon. Had got it up about half way on the John Lewis side. Hope they got it finished in time for the morning.

I hear all three sections are now up.

A few pictures from yestersday, December 10th 2007, when only two sections were up.

Nice photos Marky. It's a sad reflection of British industry that this simple design of bridge could not be fabricated in Britain but had to come from Switzerland.

I wounder if this bridge will be called an eyesore in 20 years time, like the one on the strand that has just been removed.

I for one find the design unappealing.

Until recently there was a picture, on the hoardings, of the proposed bridge. It showed this bridge as being unsupported, except by the buildings at either end. That's quite a large span.

The point regarding the Strand Bridge is interesting; both the aforementioned and the Paradise Walkway could both be regarded as "modernist" of course, we all know what that means!
