It was looking tired and I think it's definitely had it's day, personally I'll be glad to see it go.

This was all part of a Grand Scheme to have high level walkways throughout the city centre. You can see bits of them all over the city centre, but few of them were ever linked up.

Default Demolition of city's last walkway

An enclosed footbridge in Liverpool city centre, which has become a focus
for anti-social behaviour, is to be demolished this weekend.

The bridge, across the Strand, is the last remaining part of a system of
    walkways introduced in the 1970s.

In recent years, it has been closed at night to prevent rough sleepers and
    gangs of youths congregating.

The Strand will be closed to traffic between St Nicholas Place and Liver
Street until 0600 GMT on Monday.

Only the steps are left (Sat. night)...the rest has already gone. A good view, of what's left, can be had from Beetham Plaza (where the Bucket Fountain is).

Good to see the end of that bridge, another little piece of 70's tat removed.

Does anyone know why the bucket fountain is never on --seems a shame.

I didn't realise it was coming down so quickly...I doubt there'll be anything standing by Midnight Saturday. A couple of rough hand-held shots. I'll sort something out for Flickr 'old Liverpool' once I get a 'now' picture sometime next week.

Gone! That was quick. It'll look strange with no bridge over the Strand and Goree.

I looked down that way this morning and there is hardly any evidence of the bridge having ever been there!!

Out of sight, out of mind. That's the way it is with structures such as the Strand footbridge. People use them daily when they're there, but once they're gone, they're soon forgotten about.

I'm afraid that these are the sorts of structures that few people would bother to photograph and so as soon as I heard about the impending demolition I took some photographs myself.
