    Default Birkenhead Tramway faces closure

The Birkenhead Tramway faces an uncertain future after Wirral council budget cut's cause staffing problems. Let's hope that someway can be found to keep this popular attraction open http://tramways-monthly.com/2011/10/...nter-shutdown/

These things take time, Rome wasn't built in a day you know.

I hope not. It will be a great loss.

If the Tramway closes we will lose a big part of Birkenhead's history.

Birkenhead had the first street tramway in Europe, opening in 1860.

Very sad news. What happened to the proposals / rumours that Mersey Travel were going to buy the tramway and eventually extend it to Seacombe Ferry?

Did they die a death when Merseytravel decided not to buy Pacific Road?
