Fall Reflections

Cool night: autumn breeze on my face,
I walk the worn planks of the dock;
distant green, red lights blink.

Something splashes in the water:
duck or fish, impossible to see,
the ripples slowly diminish.

Next morning, I drive by a cornfield,
the rows of maize levelled -- a few
stalks stand: ragged, defiant flags.
