Didn't they have big models of the ships in glass cases on the ground floor? If you were well behaved and asked nicely the man on the desk would give you a handful of postcards of the various Cunard ships Like you we used to go with our neighbour to collect her allotment. The Echo used to list all the ships that were sailing or arriving into Liverpool and the Library up on St Domingo Road had a room where the newspapers were and lots of families used to go and check up where their Dad or brother was.amazing how technology has changed communication now they can't go to the chippy without saying where they are.

Not sure it was the office in your pic Gerard as it was a long time ago!!

Yes I think you're right Doris...i didn't get the postcards though!
......we were only talking last week about the only way we knew when Dad was coming home was to look in the Echo!.......but we used to write all the time, I still have some of my Dad's letters. He died over 20 odd years ago now so they are something to remember him by......wouldn't have that with an email or text!

Sorry Liz, I missed this post..

There are 3 basements Liz in the Cunard building... one has safety deposit rooms in..
another was the luggage area which was thriving with porters running everywhere..
this area is as it was years ago in its heyday ... untouched, it is a amazing place to visit...
that could be the area you visited, I've made videos of all that area and around all the basements.. and don't have the time to sit still and edit them..
inc the lower basement that was used as an air raid shelter.. thats another place that is great to see..
it still says painted on the walls from the war.. '1st Aid Area' and things like that...

    Sorry about the vid folks...
I wont put anymore on here..
    .

Heres one of the loads of vids I made in the Cunard Building..
that I did manage to sit still long enough to make.
its in one of the basements.. its self explanatory..

Great Gerard, always interesting to see the nooks and crannies.

We visited the Martins building a while ago and it was really good... but the guide told us of paintings and other stuff which had been left in the cellar over the years...I'd have loved to have gone down there for a nosey!

    You are welcome Liz...

Did you see the Minerva statue on top of the Town Hall from the Martins building ?
from the boardroom ?.. its an unbelievable experience...
you go in the boardroom and at the end of the room is a window overlooking the Town Hall...
you see the Minerva statue and it appears to be right outside the window..very big looking..
you walk toward the end of the boardroom and it gets smaller, it should get bigger as you approach it..
it is the most weird thing I've ever seen.. and nobody can explain why it happens...

    Ta Liz..
