    Default Liverpool Reservoirs

A DISUSED underground reservoir in Liverpool is being offered as a potential film location.

High Park Street reservoir in Dingle is being advertised to the cinema and television industries by owner United Utilities.

Its rarely-seen interior could provide a dramatic backdrop for scenes in films, TV dramas and soap operas. The covered reservoir, built in 1855, was listed as a Grade II building in 1975.

When it was in operation, the only way to get in or out of the reservoir was via the roof.

Its walls feature a corner tower which is part of the mechanism that allowed water to flow into the reservoir.

United Utilities is UK’s largest operator of water and wastewater networks and owns over 140,000 acres of land in the North West.

Parts of its estate have already been used in dozens of recent shows including Coronation Street, Wainwright Walks, Cutting It and Max and Paddy.

Now for the first time, the company is actively advertising its portfolio of reservoir sites, ruins and other historical buildings to film-makers. High Park Street reservoir is just one of a number of locations across the region being offered up for film-makers’ use.

Among the properties on offer in Cheshire are a grade II-listed Edwardian pumping station in Northwich and a watermill in Tarporley.

United Utilities spokeswoman Charlotte Barker said: “We’ve always tried to accommodate production companies from the world of TV and film. They can use any of our sites within reason.

“United Utilities owns and manages land from the Lake District to the Peak District, including the West Pennine Moors and the Forest of Bowland. We have such a varied portfolio of buildings and are more than happy to work with film companies who are interested in using our land.

“For the very first time we have actively advertised all our locations on our website, so production companies can now search for properties online in our portfolio.”

United Utilities is working with North West Vision, the film, TV and digital media development agency for England’s North West.
