    Default Merseyside Shore Line

WORK has started on a sailing club destroyed in an arson attack, thanks to a £500,000 grant.

Liverpool Sailing Club has been homeless since the blaze five years ago at its boathouse near the old Speke Airport.

Now groundwork has begun on rebuilding it after Sport England handed over cash for the ambitious project. Added to European funding it means the club has raised the £1.25m it needs for its plans for a new building on the banks of the Mersey.

    Default Garston Coastal Reseve Park

    Garston Coastal Reseve Park

If you can ignore the comedy knob and other examples youth expressionism, Garston Coastal Reserve Park is a beautiful addition to Liverpool's parks and grounds.

4 years and 5 million pounds later, the area has been transformed into a walker's paradise along the coast, feet away from the River Mersey than runs upto Speke Hall and probably beyond.

What a delightful & tranquil area Kev.Always nice to have places like this to go to particularly if you need to escape the hustle & bustle of city life.It really makes you appreciate what we have on our doorstep. On the 4th picture down is that an old Trawler or Dredger btw.
Its nice to know that even within our cities you don't have to wander too far to find solitude with the choice of Parks,Coastal Paths & Gardens close by.Sad though that we are still left with reminders of who we have to share this planet with.

Once the place has had time to 'bed in' I'm hopeful that the incidents of vandalism will decrease. Shame that the kids living in the area don't know how to treat them. I grew up in and around that area too but would never had poured paint over something like that, maybe we would have done, who knows......

I'm going to get along the other end to have a look at the boat house being rebuilt.

U can't beat it on a sunny day, look-out point is great! (were the stones are located). To the left is the boat house that should be completed soon with a jetty into the River

    Default Liverpool Sailing Club

I've been keen to get closer to this development for some time now and after a long walk I eventually got there, about 20 mins from the Garston Coastal Park entrance. Liverpool Sailing Club are a family based club first formed in 1958. Currently, they are replacing their old clubhouse with a multi- million pound building that will provide fantastic facilities for all water sports.

Actually it's meant to look like a sail. See the pic on the Sailing Club's website: http://www.liverpoolsailingclub.org/Plans.htm
