Default Burroughs Gardens Baths and Wash House.

Does anyone know when the baths and wash house closed down, I think the wash house closed first but I am not sure. There is a difference of opinion here but I will say nothing. However I can remember the penny (old money) plunge.

Definitely not in the 60's. I left school in 1974 and I remember going to the baths after I left school.

I went to Burroughs Baths in 1976, a gang of us from Gerard Gardens. There was a beetle in the water and it wasn't George Harrison. The wash house had well closed by then though.

I learned to swim there in the late 1970's. My class at St Georges Everton would be taken there once a week for swimming lessons. I remember it was very old fashioned and the water was usually freezing!

Yes, my school always went there.
It was a race to to get changed first and be the one to "break the jelly"
I envied my big brother 'cos he got to swim in the "scalldies" running alongside Tate&Lyle.
