Default Mad Ernie's in Park Road.

Ernie has a barbers shop in Park Road. I go in there against my better judgement,,,,,, 'cos if you say " I only want a trim please Ernie!"
He nearly breaks out into tears.
Don't get me wrong, Ernie is a good barber and specialises in taking as much hair off as he can, to give value for money. His No. 1 and 2 Haircuts are second to none, but if you ask him for anything different, then his eyes become glazed. He then sharpens up his cut-throat razor. By then, you either make a run for the door, saying, " there's my 82 bus just outside, I'll be back later."
Or you resign yourself to Ernie's Artistic hairdressing talents.

No photos available for a while.

Went there myself once Steven, just the once mind, and I know what you're on about. He asked me if I wanted it shaved round the back. I enquired if there was any room in the shop as it was raining?

At least were not at the stage just yet where we ask for a haircut and he asks 'which one?'

I used to get a shilling to go to the barbers when I was kid. I went to Cochrans in Picton Rd. He only charged sixpence. It was by the bridge,it was opposite the Magnet Cinema. He only knew one style. I think he had been an army barber 'cos you wuz baldy when you came out.

Wot you on about Steve ? Ernie is a great barber, and Alf, you get a decent haircut at a fair price, no kids on Saturdays, no waffle about football. And he lets us put posters up,advertising events in the Dingle, not like some miserable pretentious baskets I could name. Ernie Rules

The look In his eyes could be due to himself not having the pleasure of imagining himself cutting skullcaps wide open when he doesn't use that lovely cutthroat razor to give his signature no 1 or 2's.

A true barber has a love for smiley clown make up and pink or purple Mohawks.

Pee Wee! Now theres a name from the past. In the early 1960s I managed a pub called the Vine in Vine St. Pee Wee was one of my customers. If he is still around he would be in his eightys.

A barber without his razor Is like a Samurai without his Katana.

The Razor Is like an extension of his soul.
