Alison,
Census records: why don't you do it online? Go back to the original sheet that you pulled up on Genes Reunited. Often, the census page number is at the top of the screen [it is on Ancestry.co.uk] on Ancestry you can advance to the next one, or the preceding one, just by entering the page number?
genius idea! i will do that thanks! am new to doing this stuff and am hitting brick walls so often!
Hi Alison.
I've found it!
It says Goughs Court on that Census entry, and it's shown as Goff's Court on the 1848 map.
(Thanks to Dazza for his help with all those 1848 maps.)
Same pronunciation - different spelling.
The smaller scale 1890 map shows the site had been cleared, and there was a cooperage there by the time of the 1906 map.
Well done
Hi Alison,
Just to complete the picture. I did a quick search on the 1871 Census.
Here are Census Sheets 14, 15, '16' & 17. These are the census sheets either side of 'Sheet 16' [which you originally posted] for Gough's [Goff's] Court. Sheet 14 shows the end of "Printers Court" and the beginning of "Gough's Court". They are neighbouring courts on the same block, as shown on Quentin's 1848 OS map posted earlier.
Regards,
Daz
Thanks Alison, it was my pleasure. And good luck with the rest of your research.

this is the best bit of advice you will get today, this forum is fantastic, most of the posters are ladies who are real experts at geneology and only too willing to help, your brickwall is a pain to you but these ladies relish it as a challenge, i have been doing research for a long time and it took off once i got into the hands of these experts, they really are the best and more than willing to help, good luck
A couple of SHEPHERD burials are listed on Toxteth Park Cemetery website. 1869 and 1873 at 4 Court, Parliament Street.
