    Default UNSEEN AND UNPUBLISHED - DEVON STREET - 1960 & 1967

Devon Street runs from Stafford Street to Moss Street behind and parallel to it's more illustrious neighbour, London Road. Even as back as recently as the late 1960s it contained residential properties which through their dilapidated state, succumbed like many others to the bulldozer. Retail and small business units now take up this space.

Ah, the Bedford (camper) van. The working man's yacht.

I was, as a child, driven down from bonnie Scotland to soppy Surrey via old London town in October 1966. Not in the Bedford camper van, but one with bench seating along the sides at the back. A journey to test the fortitude and determination of all aboard. One small fillip to boost the spirits was when we encountered Leslie Phillips as he was leaving a Soho restaurant.

    Back to reality,
The trades description act should be thrown at you Ged. I thought we were to get country scenes on reading, "UNSEEN AND UNPUBLISHED - DEVON" as the headline to the thread.

Another 2 Anglias on view too. It seems there's one on every other photo I discover. I suppose being made local in Halewood, they were easy to come by.

Brother Ged,as a pupil at St. Annes junior school in Overbury St, some of the classrooms faced Spekeland St, and I can clearly recall a fleet of Anglias leaving the police garage/service building, it was a novelty, as I only recall the 'old' black vehicles prioir to that date.(c1960?)

Did you mention police and Anglia's Tom. Here they are getting mobile in 1967.

Tom, even though I suspect you'd have left by June 1969.

Correct brother Ged, although my attendance record would dipute that I spent any time there at all. I recall trotting up Overbury St. to the senior building in 1961.
