    Default Where's North Liverpool?

I'm a bit of a newbie on the site and have been surfing around having a gander at all the old photos, some of which bring back memories of childhood.
Following one link, I looked at 394 photos of Liverpool taken by the Council. I couldn't find even one photo of anywhere north of Dale Street! The majority seemed to be in South Liverpool.
I was brought up in Walton Hall Park area and went to school in Evered Avenue, off Rice Lane. There must be loads of photos kicking about but they are avoiding being found by me.
Any links to North Liverpool, Melling, Magull or Kirkby of the past, would be appreciated. Cheers.

If I'm not mistaken? isn't Magull,Melling North East of Liverpool?
The reason you might not find photographs is because Kirby and the North East did not come under the Housing slum criteria in the 60's and any photographs that had been taken? was to show the new housing(estates) going underway.

Oh have you tried the Sefton Borough council for the north east photo's?

The LRO's lack of Bootle and outlying districts photographs are because Bootle was its own township back then with its own Town Hall etc. Those even further afield districts you mention cacher are probably served by the records offices in Southport and Preston though there are some Bootle photos now filtering into the LRO.

Anyone notice, in the links posted by Georgie, that Litherland "was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, however there was no mention of Liverpool at that time." Johnny come latelies.

Thanks folks for all the info. ...lots more clicking to do.
I was looking at a thread of 2007 referring to the old Atlas cinema on Rice Lane and the Throstles Nest alleyway alongside it. I used to walk through the Throstles Nest twice a day on my way to and from school in Evered Avenue, off Rice Lane. A few days ago, I saw a photo of the Atlas cinema - this morning, the photo is "unavailable". What happens to the old photographs when they are said to be "unavailable"? Is there a way to find them again?

I only went to the Atlas cinema to see a film on one occasion. I can't remember which film, but I do remember that the fiirst two or three rows of seats near the screen, were wooden benches. I don't think they had backs but am not certain about this. Seats further back had some padding. In those days there were about 70 cinemas listed in the Liverpool Echo. Is there any photo record etc of all the Liverpool cinemas?
