    Default Sandfield Park

Houses of distinction around Sandfield Park.

Somewhere you could live and remain in Liverpool even if you won the lottery, just like Woolton, Cressington Park or Grassendale I suppose.

    Nice one Ged.

I know this place very well. Sue's sister and her hubby have a big house here. Rooney's mum and dad also live here.

The park was laid out about 1850 as a private residential park with two lodges controlling the entrances, one on Queens Drive ( now ) and the other, Alder Road. The park was intended for the more prosperous businessmen of liverpool who were already finding West Derby to be an ideal dormitory area. Strict rules were drawn up regarding the size and cost of property that could be built there and an annual charge was made ech year for the upkeep and improvement of the park roads.
All these rules were incorporated in covenants which had to be undertaken by each new householder and many are still in force today.

From a History of West Derby by John Cooper and David Power.
