The Devil Dropped by for a Drink
The Devil rode
on my shoulder; his coarse words
fouled my ears tellin me
to stray from the path.
Two-bit roadhouses, two-bit whorrs,
I swilled Wild Turkey by the quart,
messed with dames more than I ought.
Then I sowed my seed in Kalamazoo.
Mazie was her name -- did I love her?
Knew her in the Biblical sense is all.
Our marriage ended in a drunken brawl,
broken mirrors, broken vows; she called me
a louse -- I cursed her for an ungrateful bichh.
Now I've got a daughter, and that's the hitch.
Can't get to see Suzie no matter how I try.
The law keeps me two hundred yards away.
Yep, in my shack, the Devil still drops by
shares a bottle of Jimmy Beam with me.
I seen the Devil and Jimmy
more than I seen Suzie.
