Default UNSEEN AND UNPUBLISHED - HOOD STREET - 15TH APRIL 1929

This LRO photograph shows one of the magnificent buildings lost to Liverpool in what is now part of an inner city dual carriageway for buses only.

Hood Street ran off Roe Street, almost as a continuation of it until it reached Whitechapel, it then became Crosshall Street. To enable you to get your bearings, in the distance you can see the entrance to the Midland Railway warehouse which became the Conservation Centre. (scrollbar at the foot of the post required or click on the pic)

Other streets in the vicinity which were lost forever after the mass clearance of 1964 were Tryon Street, Marble Street, Brythen Street and Charles Street. The site of the photograph is marked with a red line on the 1908 map.

Cheers Kev, yes a fine looking building isn't it. Perhaps there's more to it why it was lost, bombed perhaps, or maybe just another of the city planners gaffs.

Did the "Ice House" Cold Storage building in Williamson Sq go at the same time?

Not sure about that az. The Union Cold Storage facility, formerly the Theatre Royal and a lot of the area seemed to be getting demolished from 1964, mainly for St. Johns Precinct and the surrounding layout, eg - underground roadway for St Johns unloading access etc.
