    Default Postcard help!?

    Hi,
Just hoping someone can help or at least point me in the direction of someone who may be able to?

This photograph contains a pic of my great grand-dad. I always assumed it was a photo but on the reverse it says it is a postcard. There is no writing on there, (except the word postcard on reverse) it was never posted to anyone. There is no information on the front or the reverse.
Im just wondering if anyone has any idea as to what was being celebrated, or where it was?

Just incase the following information helps or provides any clues- My great grandad was born and bred in Liverpool. Lived all his married years in Kirkdale area and supposedly worked on the trams at one time though I have no idea as to what his role was. He died approx 1947

Would just love to know why the pic was made into a postcard

    Hi, Lelly.
Not unusual for photos to have a postcard back.
It was just one of the options in those days.

I remember when we had enlargements made about 50 years, we usually asked for "postcard size", but they weren't produced as postcards by then.

The occasion looks like a presentation.
    Retirement, possibly.

Postcard photogaphs are not necessariy postcards as such but merely a way of keeping the cost down ie the photographer might of a aquired a bulk purchase of these which were silver sensitized for developing any negative in the darkroom and so keeping the cost to a minimum.

Photographic paper was quite dear in those days even if it was B&W.

Unfortunately your postcard image is not showing up for me, but I agree with Philip G. that a lot of period family photographs had postcard backs so you could mail them to other family and friends.

Lelly, it seems to be a presentation of a diploma or certificate along with a medal/badge of some sort. No odd medals kicking about?

When I did my own developing and printing I used to buy my postcard sized paper in A E Jones on Breeze Hill, they sold a lot of government surplus photo paper cheaper than your Ilfords and Kodaks. Their postcard paper always had postcard details on the back.
I think the price was 9/11 per 100 against 16/11 for Kodak
