WORK has started on a £1m nursery in Speke that will provide child care facilities for south Liverpool families.
The day nursery on the Estuary Commerce Park will be one of the biggest in the country when it is finished next April able to cater for 100 youngsters as well as creating up to 30 jobs.
Liverpool-based UK Land and Property is the developer behind the project in partnership with land owner Liverpool Land Development Company.
The building will be let on a 20-year lease to Wirral-based Kiddy Factory, a nursery operator with existing sites in Birkenhead, Deeside and Pulford, near Chester.
LLDC chief executive David Waugh said: "I am delighted that work on this much-needed facility is under way. It will provide a local solution to the childcare needs of people working at the many new business sites."
Littlewoods Home Shopping is to start relocating 1,200 jobs to Estuary Commerce Park in January.
Simon Parker, UK Land and Property's managing director, added: "The nursery will be a fantastic addition to the Estuary Commerce Park."
