Default Searching for info : Charles Edward Ranner MM (bar)

    Hello.
Just stumbled across this site whilst researching family history.
Looks very interesting and I wondered if I could get some advice.

I am trying to trace the history of a Charles Edward Ranner.
I believe he was a School teacher in the Liverpool area after WW1.

During WW1 he was awarded the military medal and bar.
He served with the Royal Engineers during the war and was transferred to the Kings 'Liverpool' once the war was over.

I have copies of his medal identification card, London gazette entries, and details showing he had an address and telephone in the Bromborough area.

Address Cherry Holt , Greenfield av, Bromborough, 1231

I have been unable to find his date of death, I assume he's dead.. Born 1885.
He was also married to a Clara Lofts Shambrook.

I would live to find a local newspaper report detailing his WW1 exploits.
To have been awarded the MM twice he must have done something brave.

I am researching him because we share the same family name.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    hiya Steve..
Charles Edward Ranner was born in Newmarket in 1885
Clara Lofts Shambrook was born in Lincoln in 1892
they married in Grantham in June qtr 1917...right in the middle of WW1...
there are NO RESULTS for him dying in WW1 or WW2....and freebmd only goes up to approx 1946....so ...either he emigrated or lived a good old age....I see Clara died aged 50 in 1942 on the Wirral....so I presume that Charles lived on in the Wirral......it doesnt look like they had any children...do you have any records for any children ?...allan

    Hi Allan,
You have summed up all the details I have.
I also have telephone number records showing him right up untill the 1950's
    I assume he died then..
I have no records of any children.
    Thanks

In Lister Drive school about 1943 to 45 when I left there was a headmaster called Ranner. I never saw it written so can't confirm the spelling. I think he was head of the juniors (under11s) but it may have been the seniors. If I remember correctly he was tallish with a bald head at that time. The building at that time is demolished but the school lives on round the corner and may have records. I have looked for info in the record office without success.

Thanks for posting a reply Alan. May well have been the man I was looking for.
His Union records show him as a headmaster around that time.
    Thanks for the physical description.
