For what building (or buildings) is Peter Ellis famous?

Lovely photo of Falkner Square, Max.

Peter Ellis designed and was the architect behind Oriel Chambers, Water st and 16 Cook st - two pioneering way of building and apparently the fore-runners to some of the famous U.S. buildings. Mass Glass exteriors, the spiral staircase of cook st encased in glass - a bit ahead of his time with his controvesial designs you might say.

The work of Ellis included 14 Oriel Chambers, Water Street, once described as 'one of the most remarkable buildings of its date in Europe'.

    Default Peter Ellis.

    Very good, Ged and Max.
His buildings were so far ahead of their time, that they were ridiculed so much by his contemporaries, that 16 Cook Street and Oriel Chambers are thought to be the only buildings he ever designed.
If I was forced to pick just one building in Liverpool as my favourite, it would be Oriel Chambers.

Is that the shop below which sells tobacco pipes - it's been there for years if it is. I used to go past it on my Shipping round in 1980.

The Echo says they've been trading there since 1817!
Quite remarkable considering the building was built in 1864.
