There's a story behind that Hatfield Hotel.
A pub was built next to Sefton Park station and they applied for a licence.
In fact, they applied for a licence 12 times, and each time it was refused, so that is a case of a pub being built which has never served any ale!

the doorway mosaics are fab. they look so much better than plain boring tiles. even the old marble steps are great.
haven't been around town much looking for them as I've been concentrating on suburbs. nice to know they still exist in the city centre considering all the rebuilding going on.

there used to be a Liptons one at the Lawrence Rd (Wavertree) Liptons/Maypole (now there's a blast from the past). Shop is vacant now, but the mosaic was either damaged or removed in the 90's as far as I know.

I believe there are some mosaic pictures in Moorfields station. I never go in there so I don't know.
    Anyone here seen them ?

I've got the tile picture ones so I can put them up. I didn't post them as I thought tiles too big to be a proper mosaic. I think there's 1 in the walkthrough to Old Hall St, there's also ethnic groups represented in glass cases. didn't have camera with me when I last went through there 3 weeks ago.

Oh they're lovely. Thanks for posting. It's the first time I've seen them.

    ps,
actually, it was my dad who told me about them. He uses Moorfields station from time to time. I never have cause to go there, so I wondered what the pictures are like.
    I'll show him these pics.

    Thanks Quincy.

    Default mosaics

Speaking of mosaics, what ever happened to the mosaic of the waterfront that was situated at the rear of the mersey tunnel entrance at the apex of Manchester St and Dale St? It was about four foot in diameter and about three foot high. it showed a section of the river with Liverpool and Birkenhead.
