    Lines to an Ex-Girlfriend

The names carved in the campus beeches
expand each year like our love

-- the cringe-worthy words I wrote back then
seem artificial to me now -- what art and artifice.

And we never carved our names in the trees,
although I implied we did. All those initials:

hearts peeled like beech bark. I remember
the ache even now, wonder if I was just
one more man who shared your bed.

Very good Chris, some nice ideas there.
I like the idea of a changing canvas, just like the bark in your illustration.

    Thanks Dazza.

Waiting to hear about the finalists of the Lennon Performance Poet contest. As the rules said, "If selected to perform you will be notified by 5pm Friday 8th October 2010. A list of finalists will be published on the Beatles Story website. . . . Be prepared to attend the Liverpool Performance Poet Slam on Saturday 6th November."

Well, I'll be waiting at the sidelines with a beer for you if that's the case?

    Good luck tomorrow.

Thanks, Lindy and Daz. Since the rules said 5:00 pm Friday possibly the announcement will not be till then. Meanwhile I have been looking on the Beatles Story website in case there is any advance word. I have also figured out that the rules call for the finalists to read three poems, one of which was submitted for the contest, and two others by themselves about John Lennon. It wasn't clear to me when I first read the rules that it meant their own poems or if it was others' poems for the two other pieces. At least that's how I've come to interpret what they are saying...
