Might be an older car in the old pic, but the "wigwam" wasn't completed until 1967 - so the pic is mid to late 60's. It doesn't look like any blue plastic is on the stainless roof in the BW pic...

Notice how us poor pedestrians have lost a lot of pavement to make a lay by for the motorists. The car looks like an Austin A7O. I took this on my lunch time ramble around the area.

The car in the pic is a hillman minx from about 1954.

Hi Az,The A90 Atlantic was built for the American market but was available to order in the UK. I seem to remember it held an endurance record at the Brickyard for many years. It wasn't really a success over here.

Thanks, that explains it... they were all gone here by the time I came to the US....

Because they were both "A90" models, was the only major difference the body?

I think they came out soon after WW2, they had a 4 cylinder engine, the later Westminster had a 6 cylinder. The Atlantic was available as a 2 door coupe and as a convertible. I saw one on Ebay a while ago and it made over $50k. It wasn't original the engine had been changed for a later Austin Healey 100/4 unit. The Atlantic coupe had an electric back window, supposedly for extra ventilation, being a flier you probably know the aerodynamics of the car and know it would suck in exhaust fumes. Very interesting car though.

Our Austin A70 which we used on camera trips to Wales and the Lakes. I don`t know anything about cars but I know it was under powered because with 4 of us in it we had to reverse up the hills because it couldn`t climb in foward gear.

You will be praising the brakes too then, as the car-full will have had to roll down the hills as well.

I wonder if the locals greeted you with, "Hello again" as you backed into view?

I can see why you take such excellent pictures Joe, a life times experience.

    Hi Joe

Great photograph and great story. However I doubt if the photograph dates from 1866 as you have on there at lower right.

Most 4 cylinder cars had that problem on the extreme welsh hills. I had the same problem in a Mk2 Consul trying to get to the graveyard where my family is in Tremeirchion.
