    Default £91m new look waterfront

A plan to breathe new life into 84 miles (134km) of Merseyside's coastline has been unveiled.

A Sefton Water Centre, a new urban park in Liverpool, extending seaside proms and redevelopment of Pier Head are all proposed for the project.

The £91m second phase of the plan to create an "internationally-acclaimed" waterfront begins this year.

Funding has been provided by the North West Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund.

It will be the second phase of a long-term plan by Mersey Waterfront.

New Brighton's seafront will be revamped and improvements made at several seafronts as part of Pride in Our Promenades.

    Exciting time

Cross-river lasers will light up the Mersey, linking Liverpool and Birkenhead.

A new urban park will be created to complement a new residential development on the former International Garden Festival site.

The Pier Head ferry terminal will also undergo an overhaul.

Louise Goodman, director of Mersey Waterfront, said: "It's an exciting time and there's no doubt we're increasing the scale and impact of the projects we support, as we aim to reinforce the image and identity of our coastal assets nationally and internationally."

The third part of the project, to be completed by 2020, includes the creation of a Waterfront Regional Park Zone and improve transport links between key locations. source....

Not sure the Garden Festival bit is really news though. Its already in the existing Langtree development brochure on the Festival Gardens website

I haven't heard the name Riverlands before though. I like it.

Glad Otterspool is getting a revamp. I've been down there a couple of this evenings on my bike, and it's looking a bit tatty, with the gappy cobbles, tarmac patches and the broken glass all over the place. Oh and the walk of fame's seen better days

    Thumbs up

I am impressed that the new park will be completed for 2008 and that they are pressing ahead with this and not the homes first. Great to see a company that puts people first.
