A new book out which after thumbing through I decided I had to add to my collection as i'm a soft touch for previously unseen oldies, especially if in colour and realting to stuff I love.

I remember the club. I did a small disco installation for the manager and popped in some nights for a late drink. Main impression is of foreign sailors, ladies of the night, and the bar accepting almost any currency.
    Mamaries are made of this.

Great book, I got it a few weeks ago for it's railway content which is more my interest.

    .
It didn't look much better when I went there (early 80's). The back yard guarded by a lonely alsatian dog constantly barking. Norseman Club looked a bit better when illuminated in the dark, but don't we all?

Frequented by ships crews and ladies of the night. Yes I remember it - not quite well

It was during a time I hung around that way due to my new found brothers-in-law to be.

Ha ha - sounds about right. I think most of the men and women I remember from in there had been around the block once or twice and were nobodys fool. I only don't remember it as well as I could as I never came out of there anything but pallatic, definitely as the last port of call.

I was most impressed by the barmaid's/ barmen's knowledge of converting foreign currencies. Long before the Euro, the Norseman was our first " global village club". Ahead of it's time in that respect.
Glad I'd stopped playing pool by that time, Gerard, I might have been one of the guy's you hustled.
I believe you when you say your brother in laws introduced you to the club, Ged, my excuse to my missus was " I have to check that the gear's still working" ???????Pun invited unintentionally
Got to know a few of the ladies, the fading blooms who'd known better times. The younger girls were only interested in business (understandable), the older ladies had more time to sit and have a drink and chat.
    Happy Daze,
    Chas
