    Default TINLINGS BUILDING

Developers win go-ahead for £8m plan to redevelop old council buildings

    Liverpool Daily Post

PLANNING approval has been granted for the £8m redevelopment of the Tinlings building in Victoria Street, Liverpool.

The Vetro scheme will redevelop the former council buildings to create 38,000 sq ft of grade-A office space.

The developers hope the project will build on the success of the Met Quarter, and open up the Crosshall Street and Victoria Street area.

One of the most striking architectural features of the project will be a two-floor sculpted roofscape, designed to appear "as if floating" above the building. Other features include a new entrance, and glazed lifts,.

Liverpool City Council's planning department commended the scheme, stating the buildings "will complement the surrounding area, harmoniously blending into the street scene and providing a high quality building which positively contributes to its environment and enhances the character and appearance of the Castle Street Conservation Area".

Chris Oakes, director of developers, Huntsmere, said: "The Vetro scheme will combine iconic architecture and stunning elevations to create a landmark building in the city.

"Ideally the offices will be aimed at a single occupier, but the building has been designed so it can be subdivided into several smaller units if necessary."

The scheme will go out to tender by early March, and work will start by September.

I saw the render in today's Daily Post. To be honest, it didn't look all that nice but having said that, some Render's aren't all that complimentary so it could look quite good when finally built.

    We will see.
