    Hi Norm.
Owen Owen were indeed in London Road, but only up to 1925 (before you were born, I think), when they moved to their new building in Clayton Square.
The London Road store was then taken over by T J Hughes.
Blacklers were always in Elliot Street/Great Charlotte Street, apart from when they were rebuilding after the Blitz.
They then had temporary shops in Bold Street.

I saw her that day too.

I was standing quite near and saw here fairly close up.

    Default Lost Pubs

I hope I've got the Street numbers [ Gore's directory below] the right way around? The 'Odds' run [lowest to highest] from Williamson Sq. towards Clayton Sq.

    Ged,
"Cleveland Square taken by Philip Mayer. The seamans mission, that is spelt seaman, also known as the pox clinic stood next to the Cleveland pub. "

It was known as the Seaman's Dispensary. It treated venereal diseases mainly brought in by seamen from all over the world, later by kids going to Spain on their hols.

Thanks Waterways. Dazza, The 1860s Grapes is called the Belmont in 1963 according to Colin in post 28. You can just make out the name at the top.
