Default To the days of childhood...

Thanks for the pics, Martin. One pic in particular brings back childhood memories:? Ted Taylor's shop on the corner of Edge Lane and Binns Road. Many is the time I've been through those doors (yes, it was a double door). Also on that block was 'The Cozy Refreshment Bar', Pennington's the chemist and Baugh's Dairy... aye, memories... but thank you!

Our group played on Crawford's club in 1981.

The billing was our group 'Perspective' then 'Riley' (a group featuring Johnny O'Connell pre Groundpig and Davy Royal (billed as top comedian)

The office block I'm in right now is built directly on top of your old street!

    Default War memorial

    Mark,

I am trying to obtain a photo of the World War 1 memorial that used to be in the Crawfords factory. Does it still exist? If so, would it be possible to come and take a photo of it?

    Thanks.

    Mark

    Mart,

    That is out standing!!

I am tracing a James Ablett who served with the Liverpool Irish in WW1. On his enlistment papers, he gave his employers as Crawfords of Binns Road Liverpool.

Interestingly, he was taken prisoner by the Germans on the 8 August 1916 when his battalion attempted to capture Guillemont.

I would very much like to post the photo of the memorial on another forum; can I have your permission as the photographer to do so?

Again, many thanks for your response.

    Regards

    Mark

    Thumbs up

    Hi Mark.
Another person posted these pics, not me, I mereley pointed you to them.
"JMLE" is the owner of the pics, I'm sure he will give you permission to copy his pics.
The lists are outside on Binns Road, you can get as many photo's as you want.
The Roll of Honour ones behind the glass are internal, but I'm sure "JMLE" would get you more if you wanted. He is a decent fella

    Mart

    Thanks.

I'm off to the Old Swan office shortly, so a detour down Binns Road on my way home I think!

    Cheers.

Hi Mark, feel free to use any or all of the photo's. I've got a better camera now so if you want any more or if you'd like to take some yourself, I can take you in no problem. Let me know.

    Default Meccano - Dinky Toys.

DINKY TOYS ref. 28 L - Crawford's delivery van made by Meccano Ltd. in Binns Road Liverpool 1934 - 1940.

DINKY TOYS ref. 115 U.B. taxi made by Meccano Ltd. in Binns Road Liverpool in 1979.

Although it was illustrated in the Dinky catalogue n° 14 of 1978, this model was not distributed by Meccano. It could be obtained from United Biscuits ex Crawfords against four token wrappers from their new "Taxi" biscuits and a small amount of money. It was provided in a plain white box. Note the wheels fitted the wrong way around.

What were U.B. "Taxi" biscuits ? Any archives on this subject ?
