    Question Street Singer 1977

Does anyone remember the street singer from around 1977 who used to sing around Williamson Square at the back of Marks and Spencer.
If I remember right, the rumour was he could have had a career as an opera singer, but decided against it.
He had a magnificent voice, I used to love to listen to him, I left Liverpool some time ago.. still miss it.. but he is one of my abiding memories.. I would love to know who he was .. and what his real story was and what happened to him

    Hi Tups.

A member here asked in another thread about the man who used to sing opera in Bold st. Sounds like it could be the same man you are talking about.
I can remember vaguely seeing him in Bold st, but not clearly enough to describe him or what he used to sing.
There have been some great buskers and singers around the Williamson sq area over the years. There used to be a black guy playing and singing modern jazz and he was really good.

ah could well be.. I used to work at Plessey in Cheapside, but used to pop into town most lunchtimes.. then I worked in Bold St in 1979 at Waring and Gillow.. think they've gone now, so possibly he was around that area too.
I've been reading the forum off and on all day today and did see that thread.
A friend was telling me about a plaque outside Marks and Sparks that may refer to him.. does anyone know about this?
I need to come over to Liverpool for the day as soon as payday comes around, I am soo homesick!

Harry Bendon outside G H Lee (Hope I've spelt his surname correct).
Once played the Argyle Theatre B/head.and because of his popularity in Liverpool got a short spell at the She club I think it was.
His most popular song was Marta,Rambling Rose of the Wildwood.
