Default Buildings of the 50's and 60's

    Hi

I've really enjoyed looking at the pics of Liverpool buildings on some of the threads on the forum. Especially the art deco shots and the pics of the warehouses.

Does anyone have pics or would like to start a thread about the "modern" building of Liverpool. By modern I mean post WW2. Often forgotten classics.
many I believe are being pulled down. Shame really because they are the buildings we grew up with and they haven't really been given the
How about Tate and Lyle Sugar Silo on Regent road as a starter. My memories of returning home are of Butonwood service stations, Not really Liverpool, but two lovely twins.

Anyone know of a good book on Liverpools mordern buildings?

Nice one Davy, great thread - Now are you talking about existing structures and buildings or those now demolished?

I suppose both would be interesting, but it would be good to know whats still standing. Don't live in Liverpool anymore and it seems to me that these buildings disappear everytime I come home. The Firestation opposite the Albert Dock - gone, replaced by a budget hotel chain or macdonalds?

Some are still standing but changed - 1960 schools given a pitched roof for example.

The Metropolitan Cathedral would be an obvious 60's classic, but the Roman Catholic church has always been a great supporter of modern architecture in the many churches throughout Liverpool. Anyone got any pics?

    That's a shame, Kev.
Where can I post my pics of the Ribble Bus Station, Skelhorne Street?
    It opened in 1960.

It is a shame yes. Start a 50's 60's thread in the 'past and present' section, we have got 70's and 80's there for past buildings...
