    Default Ma Egerton

I used to go in the one in Pudsey St when Terry Molloy had it, after he left The Odd Spot. There was a open night mic when some of the strangest characters got up and sang. One bloke used to do Presley's I Want To Be Your Teddy Bear every week. Then a lady in an evening gown (straight out of a charity shop) would come round with a collection for 'the artistes'.

Ha, love it. It's gone abit quiet in there lately, no characters go in there any more. It's a shadow of it's former self. Shame...

It was even quiet in there around Christmas time when I was in there, a friday night too. There was another Egertons on Cases Street, Parker st/Elliot st end, I wonder if it had any connection as i've never heard of any mentioned.

Thanks Colin, fascinating reading about Ma Egerton. It's the first time I've seen a photo of her.

Yes, you're right. I remember now. Was Egertons two doors down?

    Hi Lindylou,

The photographs came from John Egerton, Ma's grandson, and haven't been published before. There are more - but I will leave them for another time.

I think that's the pub people referred to as 'John Shepherds'. Nice, tidy little place typical of older Higsons pubs.

Talking about pubs - - I passed the 'Blob Shop' in Gt Charlotte st yesterday and it was full at only 11:30 am.
Noticed this a few times when I'm in town - I always go to town in the mornings - and I'm amazed at how many people drink so early in the day

Same in Liscard. Weatherspoons opens at 0900hrs, me and the girls go there for breakfast and all the old lags are supping pints. Wealways sit in the window and I'm sure folk think I'm a p1sshead. I only eat the sodden breakfast.
