    Smile Happy New Year!

Liverpool pubs to cut cost of a pint to less than ?1
    Jan 2 2009
by Richard Down, Liverpool Daily Post

THE cost of a pint will be slashed to less than ?1 in eight Liverpool pubs this week in a bid to offset the credit crunch for customers.

The new pricing will kick in on Monday at Wetherspoon pubs, and will run indefinitely in a move that is sure to raise concerns about cheap alcohol among the region?s health organisations.

A pint of Greene King IPA will cost 99p, a bottle of San Miguel 99p, a bottle of Blossom Hill Ros? ?4.99, a single measure of Sailor Jerry rum and mixer for ?1.29 and a bottle of Jacques cider 750ml for ?3.99.

The announcement comes on the back of a torrid year for pubs.

Liverpool bucked the trend with a net gain of three pubs and bars, but city brewer Cains endured a turbulent time after incurring debts in the region of ?50m.

Last night Lyndsay Waldron, manager of The Raven, in Walton Vale ? one of the locals cutting prices ? said: ?I appreciate that the economic downturn means that punters now have to be more careful with their money.

?I believe the new drink prices will allow people to enjoy a visit to the pub without it costing them too much.

?Unlike most sales that start in January, though, the pub?s offers will not be ending within days, but will run indefinitely.?

The other seven city pubs which are to reduce their prices are Thomas Frost, in Walton Road; The Welkin, in Whitechapel; The Richard John Blackler, in Great Charlotte Street; The Picturedrome, in Kensington; The Lime Kiln, in Fleet Street; The Fall Well, in St John?s Way; and The Navigator, in Queen?s Drive, Stoneycroft.

They are known to do an excellent strong Wobbly Bob there - of which when I had a couple, I swear I was in an earthquake as I couldn't steady myself

    Another one bites the dust.

The Kendal Castle as was. The corner of Fountains Road and Westminster Road.

I know of a lady owning The Lighthouse, The Phoenix and The Easby with plans to make them into rentable living accommodation.

    .

Surprised thats come down Ged as it never looked delapidated, unless the land is needed for a wider development. The Easby is the one I cant believe is going to be restored, it looks well trashed.

Hiya Ste. Yes, the Kendal never did get to the delapidated stage that the Easby's at but it was a yo-yo pub as I call them. Swift's is another on Stanley Road, opened and closed 3 times last year, the manager has just moved to the Jollys on Marsh Lane.

The lady who owns the Easby might well have been waiting for a bid from the council since it's the only privately owned property on the whole of that estate that's coming down around it.

The lambeth and the Saddle must be well pleased there is less competition now.

    Default Old Haunts

Been in them all at one time or another GD but the exact location of the Bear and Staff has me puzzled. They have lasted longer than some Netherley pubs.

The Bear is just a little way up from the Black Bull Paddy, on the opposite side of the road.
