    Default Overhead Railway

    Hope anyone can help

My dad worked around the dock road many years ago and for some reason seems convinced that around the Bramley Moore pub area the overhead went to ground level then back up again further up the the line and continued onto Liverpool and beyond, no matter what we say to him, regarding the gradient etc he seems convinced.....please someone put him right!!

It stayed overhead. There were ground level tracks too though, still in use up until the 70s and even more recently than that up nearer Seaforth. He could be getting mixed up with those?

    Snipped from here
"Between Nelson and Clarence Dock stations, trains passed through the famous “switchback” section, where the line descended to ground level to pass under a high-level coal railway before rising again, rollercoaster style."

Just mentioned this to the guy I work with here, he's been in shipping since the year dot, the minute I mentioned do you remember the overhead when it got up by the Bramley Moore dock and he said 'Do you mean the bit where it went to street level' Well whadda you know? The pics i've seen of it in Bootle show the metalwork looking continuous which of course it does at these still a high level railway/coalyard up there but it's true that the actual line from Dingle to Seaforth dipped. Cheers for that find Stanier.

I thought there was a DVD of a ride on it from start to finish?

Or can't you tell from the old film footage?

I've seen that and I honestly don't remember the dip in it but it must've been there?
