Great web site.
My mum used to live in King Gardens in Liverpool 8 in the 60's, and I have found it so hard to find a pic of them for her.
I have attached the ones I have come across so far...hope it helps!!

There are still the tenements near Crown Street (Minster Court) built where the orphanage once was (explaining the road name Orphan Street).

Someone told me there were once tenements like this where the Old Swan Tesco superstore is too...

Eldon Grove is currently being renovated I think.

Gardens? There wasn't a blade of grass anywhere near them. They ended up souless hell holes, creating social problems. They were quick fixes to get people out of the slums in the 1930s. One sort of slum to another with inside toilets and and hot and cold water. Once the slums had largley gone, then they went. Thank God.

Caryl Gardens had some art deco features.

They were everywhere. The best of them was probably Hirst Gardens in Old Swan.

I've a book at home full of pictures of these tenaments, I'll dig em out later and post away.

Liverpool are full of these tenaments, some nice looking and some plain horrible. They finally took down Paddington in Edge Hill before 2000 to build a student village (and finally uncovered some long lost tunnels).

The ones on Orphan Street were a major balls up by the Council. They were priced £1mill to demolish them and build new flats until a local builder told the council that he would pay £200, 000 for the entire building if he could do the work himself. Needless to say, he transformed these in to some nice apartments and made a pretty penny in the process.

The bull ring were so badly designed as the noise in the centre just echoed around the entire place.

Minster Court? They were called Windor House, Myrtle House and Myrtle Gardens

Yes, but now the remaining sections (not the block on the left, or the front of the block on the right - that's all gone now for newer housing) are now called Minster Court. Flat's aren't bad either - some problems with damp, but they seem to be mainly lived in by students and 'young professionals'.

It's not that long ago that they were demolished.
