Thread: MY GRANDAD

    Default MY GRANDAD

This beautiful man is my Grandad.

He was killed in action 66 years ago today ( 25 January ) while serving in Italy.

He had spent 3 years in Malta on the anti aircraft guns helping to defend the Island from constant bombing raids. He was told he was going home on leave and put on a ship to England. The ship was turned around for the invasion of Sicily and Italy.

He signed up as a Gunner in September 1939 and left the UK mid 1940. Nanna and my dad never saw him again.

I have cards and photos that they sent each other.

Not many words in this story yet it tells so much. Add your own stories to the remembrance website.

Please dont forget them. In us they live on.

Nice one Spike. It's a shame that when they die, all their hopes and dreams die with them.

I put it here in hope others will think of their own relatives and add them to the site.I do of course know a lot more about him than I have put here.Just showing it can still be interesting with only a little info.

My grandad is the reason I have built the sites that I have. He started everything for me.

I have a passion for remembering our ancestors.I hope it catches on with others.

He looks like a fine and handsome man Spike, no wonder you are proud of him. I agree that we should respect those that went before us.

Very fine, Spike. Though I knew of your grandfather before and that he died fighting the war, it's important to keep reminding us. Important for you and for us.

    Thanks

Lovely pictures and story Spike. I don't have any pictures of my grandparents. You should be proud. Thank you for posting.
