Thread: Sir Ken?

  1. #1

    Default Sir Ken?

It is coming to the close of the noughties and that means the last New Year Honour List for the decade. Though he was most famous in the 60's and 70's, is it not about time that Ken Dodd got tapped on the shoulder with the Queens Sword?

I know he was a bit edgey with his tax donkeys years ago, and that is the reason often mooted for the lack of a knighthood. However, he has to my knowledge never appeared in court on drugs related charges. Which is the worst?

SIR Mick Jagger a convicted drug user sentenced (but never served) to 3 months gaol in 1967.

    Or

Plain old Mr Ken Dodd acquitted of tax evasion in 1989.

I am not holding my breath though, and personally think it is a national scandal after all these years that he isn't knighted. Thoughts?

Could Ken Dodd's early enthusiasm for Margaret Thatcher be affecting the judgement of our current government? Though it shouldn't, since he was friends with Harold Wilson as well.
And the Queen herself has enjoyed his shows - shouldn't she have a say in the matter?? Surely we don't all have to vote Conservative to give Ken the recognition he deserves?

The whole honours system is a farcical and should be scrapped. Lords. Ladies, Earls, Sirs, etc.

It mightn't make as good television but usually, it's the ordinary everday folk who've done something wonderful over the years that should be recognised more instead of having to settle for a daily mirror award or something as equally unexciting.

I think people's achievements, and abilities should be recognised, but the present system (if you could call it that?!)should have well gone,it's fossilised! I mean, what the heck have lords, dames, etc, got to do with anything,in 2010!
