Finished, charming story.
Finished, charming story.
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
A large section of the Odeon (Pudsey Street part) was demolished this afternoon.
Do so many buildings need demolishing? I would love to see them helped out. I am still upset I saw the Welsh houses and Admiral Street houses were going. So sad
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
For Lindylou too.
Not the best pic but apparently, the only one of it.
Pictured in 1967 with Mike Georgeson of Georgeson's garage, facing the Cinema and established in 1955 - hence the photo.

Note the phone box on the corner in the old pic. There was always phone boxes located by the triangle.

I remember those advertisment hoardings too. We would sometimes play around the back of them on the waste ground. Flats were eventually built there, but have recently been demolished last November.
Here is the gap next to the LFC Supporters club (the old Cabbage cinema).
Yes I remember them as well. Between the hordings and cinema was a gap
that led down to the rear entrance, similarly, down the left of the cinema was
a walkway to the other entrance were on saturdays we used go down with our
jam jars as entrance fee. Behind the front window was the box office. Inside
to the right you had stairs going upto the projection room... All coming back
to me now :-)

This is for Lindylou, from April 1965
You take them for granted - until one day they're gone!
Great Sirob. How's this book coming along. I think the bible was written quicker?
Thanks so much Sirob
Those hoardings .. we used to get a foothold in those gaps and brave climbing up as high as we dare. I think I only did it once ! My mum would have gone mad if she'd seen me !!
There must have been a bit of a grass verge there on the edge of the pavement, I can't quite remember it, but those trees must have been replanted further back. I think they widened the road and pavement. The bus stop is still in the same place.
You can see here on this Google map link the flats I mentioned -

where once was dark

they've stolen the thrill away
no more shall fright
the coloured light
not Odeon, but Ode-off today
Great pictures greg's dad The Odeon brings back some early memories.
The Odeon was the first cinema I can remember going to, I was 6 and it was just before Christmas and we saw The Guns Of Navarone , went to TJ's grotto first and I got a plastic aircraft carrier as a present, I lost one of the little aircraft off the deck in the dark during the film, never did find it
A must I would have thought for at least 2 cinema buffs on this forum.
