    Thumbs down Lightship `PLANET`.

If I were Gary McClarnan I would turn my back on the City of Liverpool and take my ship to Manchester to people who appear to be more appreciative. Why ? Because quite frankly I don`t believe Liverpool deserves the PRIVILEGE of playing host to PLANET. This complete farce has been going on for so long now and viable solutions are still being blocked by certain bodies or people who appear to me to be no more than `high flying idiots`. I can remember the days when Salthouse and Canning docks were crammed with coasters much larger than The `PLANET. I`m not sure about The Albert Dock but I have a feeling that if these idiots who say Planet is too big for the dock did some research, they might well find that in past years the dock did perhaps berth vessels as big as PLANET or even bigger. I am open to correction on this of course if necessary. In any event, the people of this city have had ample time to make known their views on this matter, and I get the strong impression that the majority are `not bothered` either way.
That Liverpool, once one of the greatest maritime City`s of the world can turn it`s back upon the opportunity to host such an iconic and historic LIVERPOOL vessel is certainly beyond me. I think I would now feel quite embarrassed to face [a generous] Gary McClarnan and say to him I am a Liverpudlian !

Yes, but only by way of Gary McClarnans patience apparently. The mans patience must run out sometime, that is if he is not told by an unappreciative host to `clear out` before then !

As I have indicated on another thread I no longer live on Merseyside but have an affection for" Planet " having hung on the rails of the Isle of man steamers in bad weather (not the greatest of sailors) waitng to see the BAR light and Know the end was in sight.

I think this whole Saga is an absolute disgrace along with the similar Royal Iris fiasco .These 2 Iconic ships BELONG on Merseyside. I was staggered to see the Royal Iris in a shabby state, unloved in a corner of Cardiff docks about 20yrs ago
i couldn't believe she wasn't somehow a tourist attraction on the Mersey.

WORDS fail me , well almost.

    Is it just me?
Looking at the pictures of cruise ships in Liverpool, I'd sooner row a dinghy than sail on any of them. They are basically barges with blocks of flats on top. Considering the beauty of the cruise ships of old, I think these are an abomination. Profitable, and economically important to the ports they visit, but still an abomination. Sorry.

I agree with you... but many of my friends and neighbors just love going on cruises. The easy way to travel - everything is done for you...

One trouble I see is that every port you visit just gets overwhelmed by the volume of arrivals - Liverpool might be big enough to escape this effect though, unlike the smaller Carribean and Alaska stops.
