I have just seen the current Resident's Newsletter and it talks about Whitbread's plans for the Brittania Inn.
Whitbread have plans to upgrade the Britannia, which was built as a 7 year temporary building for the International Garden Festival in 1984. They are looking at the possibility of buidling a Premier Inn with a minimum of 40 bedrooms and a good restaurant.
As I understand it, it would be built where the car park is at present with the existing building being removed.
It is a superb site for a pub, especially in the Summer. Pity it has to be yet another 'chain' type pub and couldn't be something a bit special with its own character. But perhaps they will surprise us.
A further meeting is planned for June. I'm not sure if it is open to the public.
More details here.
Have the results of the enquiry been published yet? Are we going to get our Festival Gardens restored?
Oh dear.. Ginger the Cat... I agree with you..
That Britannia Pub is loverly there on the waterfront.. If I recall correctly, The Premier Inn has quite a new hotel not from from there by Albert Docks?
Another hotel is not necessary in that area...is my opinion...
I would encourage the local residents to go to your June meeting and speak up.. Remodelling the Britannia inside might be okay.. but, I didn't see anything wrong with it..??
The promenades stones with the STARS were needing upgrading since I was there a couple of years ago.. But, I had my first Tia Maria in that pub.. and Hope it stays...
This lot were scanned from 120 contact sheets so excuse their fuzziness...
