If LFC want to go over 60,000 they have to provide a station on the branch line, so the extra 15,000 capacity will be expensive. Merseytravel and the DofT have OK'd it. The station is not exactly right on the stadium and will entail fans walking about 1/4 mile through residential streets. Currently the line is a point to point from Lime St to Bootle and will be slow diesel trains. OK fans can change to Lime St low level. Still, it is not ideal.

The northerly Liverpool-Mcr line is to be electrified and in done in 4 years. The document stated that the Canada Dock branch would be electrified, although not by name. This means the line can be an integral part of Merseyrail using dual-pick trains, although limited in non-football use. The electrification comes for free.

As no stadium is yet built for either club and the Kirkby stadium for EFC looks a bit dodgy with an inquiry going on, EFC would be better taking the councils offer of the Long Lane industrial estate as long as the Outer Loop is opened and a station of a throughput of 30-40,000 per hour built. If the airport link is done then it will have direct access to South Parkway and the airport and the city centre.

The last RUS mentioned not to build on the old Kirkdale to Canada Dock route through the disused tunnel, as it may be needed for future dock access.

This would mean opening two lines - one for each stadium.

Wouldn't it be best to have one super stadium and share it. In Barcelona, the New Camp is a tourist attraction.

The Long Lane site can have a short branch onto the Kirkby Line.

It is also an impetus to fully open the line.

It would be, but this is Liverpool where common sense does not apply.

Any other city would have insisted a rapid-transit station was adjacent to any stadium - not in Liverpool. They do not seem to want to improve the city.
A shared stadium would be ideal at Walton Hall park with the Outer Loop opened up.

So, EFC have Kirkby station a walk away and no plans to improve throughput at all.

LFC have been given PP to build a 60,000 stadium without a rapid-transit station at all.

    Unbelievable!!

    Be consistent and get real.

First you imply that a new stadium can't afford a new station as it would make for a (too) expensive stadium then you suggest that building a stadium can stand the cost of opening a whole line!
