Thread: Ear Nose and Throat Hospital

Default Ear Nose and Throat Hospital

In the 60's I used to visit my nan in the Ear Nose and Throat hospital in Liverpool. It was a red brick building, had wrought ironwork of some sort an my dad used to park his mini up the side of the building.

I think I remember seeing one of the cathedrals from the car on the way home.

Does it still exist? Where was it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Scousehouse,

I'm not sure where the ENT was but something tells me it was in Mt Pleasant , it closed in 1978 , but if it's the building i'm thinking of yes it's still standing .
Hopefully someone on here will be able to give you a more precise answer & if your lucky perhaps a photo !

    Love Karen xx

I was getting mixed up with the Childrens Hospital and the Womens hospital, but I think you're right.

I think it's the red-brick building next door to Josephine Butler House on Myrtle Street, over the road from the Philharmonic hall.

oohh .. I have memories of that place !! had to go as an out patient when I was about 13 or 14. I had an abcess ( first thought to be a mastoid) in the ear canal and had to go numerous times while they tried to lance it using a long needle like prod instrument .. the bladdy pain was terrible. I used to be crying with it. It took about 3 weeks in all. The relief was fantastic when it was finally lanced.

hi everyone new to this board ,but going through some papers i discovered i was born here, it used to be called john bagot hospital, before becoming ENT and was demolished in the later half of the 1960s .my older sister told me i spent nearly 5 years in and out of this hospital with severe ear problems from 1961 onwards.
hope this might clarify some things for you

babyscouse. The John Bagot Hospital in Havelock st and the ear, nose and throat in Myrtle street were two very different hospitals in locations miles apart.

That's what I thought. The ENT hospital, after it closed, was Liverpool Community College for a while (I worked there). As a child I had treatment in the hospital for an ear infection. The only thing I remember is that the entrance to the clinic was up the side street and even today that door is still there. Also wasn't the ENT hospital connected the the Children's Hospital, via a corridor.......I was only like five/six at the time.
