hi there , just a shot in the dark , was wondering if i could get any advice on searching for my ancestors, my grandfather peter burns worked on the docks,im estimating he would of been born around 1930, maybe worked there in the 60,s i never met him he is now deceased, which i think happened before i was born. i dont have contact with my grandmother any more, she lives in aintree. i left liverpool when i was only 9, i am desperate to find out my roots. I have a lot of memories of liverpool, and miss seeing the docks my father used to take me to when i was a child. big up to the scousers. would be grateful of any useful info xxxxx

The first point of call whenever possible is living relatives. I don't know your personal circumstances regarding your grandmother obviously but she must hold so much information which will be lost forever if not gleaned asap.

Try the records office, take as much information as you can e.g. full names, dates of birth, any known addresses.
The Records office is in Liverpool City Centre right by the Museum ( Central Library ). The staff there are very helpful.
What kind of details do you have, without giving any specific info away in an open forum ?

A friend has taken pictures of the Robert's brothers enty on the Tower Hill memorial and a few of the Memorial itself.

Can I add one to the site alongside their entry please.

If you want the pics I can send them to you or post them on here. They are very clear.

Thanks Spike, that's good news. I'm sure the photos will be clearer than the grainy copy we have! Of course you can add the pics to your site.

I love these sites. Sad to read but so informative to younger people like myself.

    Hi Spike,
Brilliant site, found it while looking for info on my grandad, he was one of the 8 auxiliary firemen killed in Old Swan in Sept 1940. His name is Alfred Louis Kirkby Baker and actually lived in Green Lane, 245 I think, I believe all 8 where killed in 2 or 3 separate locations by the same stick of bombs. They were all from the same watch and, so I was told, based in the tram sheds on ? East Prescot Road? at the junction of Green Lane. Was that pub there called the Green Lane Tavern? Found his name on the Firefighters Memorial near St Pauls in London but have no idea were he is buried in Liverpool. would love to hear from any other relatives of the other 7 brave men who died doing their duty with my grandad. When I get more into it I will send photos of the memorial to " The Heroes With Grimy Faces " and a few other bits I need to scan.
