    St John the Evangelist School building in Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash, built in 1837

    The old school house in Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash,erected in 1835 and enlarged in 1882-98
    is now a childrens nursery

    St John the Evangelist in Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash,built in 1834-86 is currently under repair

    Drinking fountain set in the surrounding wall of Knotty Ash village hall with the usual inscription of the fountains of the day, Water is best 1837

    It's up for sale and it's so empty now..
    was it the beer or the landlord / barmaids that failed to impress ?

    It's not a real ale pub, just a small local trying to survive..

    You're not wrong, the Wheaty is a nice pub. The manager and his rotund daughter on the other hand . We've stopped going there now as it's hit and miss if they have Cains on and I can't stand the Courage or Tetley's.

    Say what you like about the Victorians but at least they did care somewhat about the very poor and homless ie they supplied one important element to sustain life...the water fountain.

    Good pics GD. Shame they can't make that fountain work again or at least make it look decent.
