Liverpool building to receive a ?group hug? in a show of support organised by developer Grosvenor
The people of Liverpool are being urged to show their support for Pelli Clarke Pelli?s One Park West building with a ?group hug? after it was nominated in BD?s award for the country?s worst buildings, the Carbuncle Cup.
Grosvenor, the developer behind One Park West - which is part of the Stirling nominated Liverpool One development - was calling for Liverpudlians to gather yesterday (Wednesday 19th) at 12.30 to form a human chain around the building.
A Facebook group has also been set up on the Internet to tie in with the event, called One Park Hug.
Guy Butler, senior development manager at Grosvenor, said: ?Love it or hate it, One Park West is here to stay and I?m proud to say will continue to provoke debate for many years to come as any landmark building should.
?We?re urging the people of Liverpool, those who love architecture and those who want to find out more, to come to and join us and appreciate a building design which has really stuck its head above the parapet and has, without a doubt, vastly improved an area of our city centre which was formerly wasteland.?
One Park West is one of ten buildings longlisted for BD?s Carbuncle Cup.
Also among the nominees are the Poundbury Fire Station, Allan Murray?s Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh, Westfield Shopping Centre in London by Westfield?s in-house architects, Hamilton Architects? Liverpool Ferry Terminal and Make?s Jubilee Campus in Nottingham
A winner will be announced later this summer.
